Revolutionising Bed Bug Detection: Why Indian Hospitality and Healthcare Facilities Need Proactive Monitoring

Early detection is the single most critical factor in managing bed bug infestations. Waiting until a guest reports bites in a hotel, a student complains in a hostel dormitory, or a hospital ward faces disruption often means the bed bug infestation is already well established. Reactive, insecticide-heavy bed bug treatments cause room downtime, operational headaches, and severe reputational damage to hotels, hostels and hospitals.

Giridhar Pai Associates LLP (GPA), the pioneer in stored-product insect (SPI) monitoring using advanced pheromone systems across India, through its Storgard Insect Monitoring systems from Trece, Inc. of the United States of America, is bringing the same level of scientific precision to bed bug management.

As the sole distributor of Digital Odour Technologies Limited (dot.)’s BugScents™ Sentry Pro in India, GPA officially unveiled this breakthrough bed bug monitoring solution at the Indian Pest Control Association (IPCA) Indiapest annual conference in Chennai (August 18–20, 2026). Many conference participants visited the dot. Stall in the product exhibition area and get a first-hand feel for the sleek BugScentsTM Sentry Pro, which includes a bed bug aggregation pheromone lure, a glueboard, and the monitor (trap).

The Stakes: Hotels, Hostels, and Hospitals

In high-turnover, multi-occupancy living environments, hitchhiking bed bugs move quickly and hide effectively. Traditional visual bed bug inspections catch infestations only after bed bug populations swell.

  • Hotels & Resorts: A single negative online review detailing bed bug bites can compromise occupancy rates and brand trust overnight. Continuous monitoring prevents guests from acting as “detectors.”
  • Hostels & Student Housing: High-density living and frequent student travel create the ideal conduit for rapid cross-room migration. Reliable detection stops localised bugs from spreading across entire floors.
  • Hospitals & Healthcare Facilities: In sensitive clinical settings where toxic insecticide spraying must be restricted or avoided, non-toxic, continuous monitoring ensures patient safety and strict hygiene compliance.

Filling the Gap: Why BugScents™ Sentry Pro Stands Out

Until now, facility managers and pest management professionals (PMPs) in India faced a choice between expensive electronic systems and short-lived sticky traps that bugs easily bypass. BugScents™ Sentry Pro bridges this gap by offering a purpose-built, science-backed monitoring trap designed for rapid deployment and sustained field performance.

  • Industry-Leading 3-Month Lure Efficacy: Powered by specialised aggregation pheromone technology developed by Digital Odour Technologies Limited (dot.), BugScents™ Sentry Pro actively draws bed bugs out of harbourages continuously for up to 90 days. This long lure lifespan drastically cuts maintenance labour and replacement costs.
  • Economical & Scalable: Designed to be budget-friendly for high-volume rollouts across dozens or hundreds of rooms simultaneously.
  • Discrete & Non-Toxic: Safe for sensitive environments like healthcare and hospitality, aligning with GPA’s commitment to sustainable, non-toxic Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
  • Definitive Early Warning: Detects bed bugs even at very low infestation levels, allowing targeted localised action before populations require broad-spectrum insecticide interventions.

Easy Deployment: Watch the Assembly Guide

Proper placement is essential for maximising trap catch rates. To support PMPs, housekeeping teams, and facility staff, GPA has published an easy-to-follow instructional video:

Watch on YouTube: How to Assemble and Place the BugScents™ Sentry Pro Bed Bug Monitor

Learn the correct assembly techniques, lure activation steps, and strategic placement zones (such as headboard perimeters, baseboards, and bed frame legs) to secure 24/7 protection for your rooms. dot. We recommend using at least two monitors per bed or bedroom for best results and following the guidelines below.

  • Placement: Position horizontally or vertically between the pillow and refuge, such as behind the headboard or under the bed.
  • Duration: Leave traps in place for 24 to 96 hours for initial rapid detection, or up to 2–4 weeks for ongoing monitoring. Traps left for continuous monitoring can last up to three months without any lure change.
  • Replacement: Replace the slow-release pheromone lure attractant and glue boards every 3 months, or sooner if full or if an infestation is detected.
  • Safety: The monitor is insecticide-free and safe to use around children and pets in occupied rooms.

Shift from Treatment to Prevention

Relying solely on reactive insecticide sprays for bed bug control is an outdated, disruptive strategy that is being replaced globally with non-toxic methods like pheromone monitors and ChinChex Amorphous Silicon Dioxide (also marketed by GPA).

By integrating the BugScents™ Sentry Pro into standard facility maintenance and IPM protocols, commercial properties can safeguard guest comfort, protect reputations, and save on expensive remediation costs.
