Let us first share the journey of FLYght UV LED Insect Light Traps over the past five years.

Giridhar Pai Associates’ business partner, Pestroniks Innovations Pte. Ltd. (Pestroniks) of Singapore, launched the FLYght One in 2020, the first of the FLYght UV LED Insect Light Trap (ILT) Series.

Customers responded to the FLYght One with awe and wonder as some saw a UV LED ILT for the first time.

Though Pestroniks had worked for many years on the FLYght range and extensively tested the FLYght One before its launch, it had to convince customers to switch from conventional UV fluorescent tube ILTs (both fly killers and flycatchers) to FLYght UV LED ILTs.

To use an analogy, Pestroniks was attempting to switch customers from internal combustion engine (ICE) cars to electrical vehicles (EVs).

Over the past five years, the shift from UV fluorescent ILTs to UV LED ILTs has been gradual, with Pestroniks’ FLYght Traps now being among the leading global brands in the segment.

The superior performance of FLYght One and FLYght Duo (second in the series) and their durability have made them the choice of discerning customers in India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Maldives, the United States, and several others.

Customer response to FLYght UV LED Insect Traps:

When customers first saw the FLYght One, some wondered how such a compact trap could trap houseflies.

A viewer can’t see the FLYght One’s UV LEDs, glueboard, or trapped houseflies.  Pestroniks engineers have cleverly designed the FLYght One to prevent viewers from seeing its LEDs, glueboard or houseflies trapped on the glueboard even when in front of the trap and in close vicinity.

Some customers could not understand FLYght One’s patented and unique bio-visual enhancer (bio-VE+) technology, which makes it stand out from other UV LED ILTs in the market.

Customer education about FLYght Traps by Pestroniks and GPA:

To create more awareness about its UV LED ILT range, Pestroniks followed up the FLYght One launch with extensive customer education through its distributors like Giridhar Pai Associates LLP (GPA) in India.

In 2023, Pestroniks released videos of FLYght One’s features and maintenance to enable an easy understanding of the product among its customers.  These videos have been very popular among GPA customers; thousands have watched them to understand FLYght UV LED ILT technology.

By 2024, because of the Pestroniks, GPA and Pestroniks distributors’ marketing efforts, many Indian customers had adopted the FLYght One as their UV LED ILTs for monitoring houseflies at their premises.

However, even now, Pestroniks and GPA feel that many global customers need to be convinced about how a FLYght One works!

Pestroniks and GPA decide on a FLYght One time-lapse video:

Brainstorming for ideas for demonstrating FLYght One’s functioning, Pestroniks and GPA teams decided there was no better way to show a potential customer the FLYght One’s performance than through a time-lapse video.

Creating the FLYght One time-lapse video

To create the FLYght One time-lapse video, Pestroniks commissioned a highly skilled videographer to film the trap attracting houseflies in a closed room with artificial light to replicate the light conditions at businesses that use ILTs.

To create the time-lapse video, Pestroniks released the same number of houseflies as in standard fly catch tests used for FLYght Trap evaluation.

The videographer recorded the FLYght Ones’s housefly catch for over an hour and compressed it in the embedded video for about a minute.

What can you see in the incredible FLYght One time-lapse video?

Our blog post readers who viewed the above incredible time-lapse video of the FLYght One attracting and trapping houseflies would have understood the workings of the FLYght One.

After the FLYght One is switched on, visible blue and invisible UV light from the trap’s bio-VE+ insert attract houseflies.  Once inside the trap, the houseflies hover in and around the trap, eventually getting stuck on the universal glueboard at the back.

The FLYght One relies on a universal glueboard that is easily available from GPA and other suppliers.

The picture of the universal glueboard full of houseflies at the end of the one-hour exposure highlights the incredible housefly attraction of the FLYght One.

Why Pestroniks didn’t film the FLYght One time-lapse video at a customer’s premises?

Testing ILTs like the FLYght One is a tricky matter.

In customers’ premises, Pestroniks would have no control over the number of houseflies the FLYght One is exposed to, as that depends on the season, the exteriors and the presence of housefly barriers like insect screens and air curtains.

Hence, Pestroniks conducts fly catch testing of FLYght traps in controlled light, humidity, and temperature conditions.

For the FLYght One time-lapse video, the Pestroniks team released laboratory-reared houseflies into the room where the FLYght One was placed for filming.

Houseflies awaiting release for FLYght One video

Even with artificial light in the room, after houseflies were released, the FLYght One attracted them due to its bio-VE+ insert that emits blue light and UV light, which are highly attractive to houseflies.

Houseflies hover over and enter the FLYght One, attracted by its visible blue and invisible UV light.  Once inside, the houseflies move around by flying and crawling on the bio-VE+ insert.  Eventually, the houseflies inside the FLYght One get stuck to its universal glueboard at the back of the trap.

World’s first time-lapse video of an Insect Light Trap:

In this blog post, GPA proudly presents the world’s first time-lapse video of an Insect Light Trap through the FLYght One time-lapse video.

The FLYght One time-lapse video shows it is attracting and trapping houseflies, which is evident from a glueboard full of houseflies at the end of just one hour of housefly trapping.
